SJUIT & DMI in Africa

About SJUIT & DMI

St. Joseph University In Tanzania (SJUIT) is a fully accredited higher learning institution, registered by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) since 2011. It was founded by Rev. Fr. Dr. J. E. Arul Raj, who also established the Daughters of Mary Immaculate (DMI) in India in 1984.

Guided by Christian values, the DMI Society works in underprivileged areas offering education, healthcare, and community development. DMI now directly supports:

  • Over 500,000 women
  • More than 10,000 college students
  • About 8,000 school children
  • Over 35,000 children under care

The African Mission

DMI expanded into Tanzania in 2003, invited by His Eminence Cardinal Polycarp Pengo. With leaders like Dr. T. X. A. Ananth and Dr. Ignatius A. Herman, DMI spread its mission across East and Central Africa, establishing universities, hospitals, and schools.

Institutions are now active in Zambia and Malawi, with missions expanding to Ethiopia and South Sudan.
